A decorator's essentials - what's always worth having with you on a project
We know perfectly well that decorating various events is often a time-sensitive task, under varying conditions, and with surprising twists and turns. That's why every decorator should have their own essentials—a set of items they shouldn't be without, even if it seems like "everything will be there."
Below you'll find accessories you should always have on hand – whether you're assembling a birthday wall, decorating a wedding hall, or preparing a balloon tunnel for an outdoor party.
1. Cable ties – Your best friend
Small, lightweight, and reliable, they can hold LED signs, balloons, and even woven greenery. It's worth having several lengths and colors – transparent or white are least visible against the background of the decoration.
2. Scissors and a wallpaper cutter
Scissors are useful for literally everything – from cutting ribbons to fishing line and tape. A wallpaper cutter is a must-have for cutting cardboard, foil, or duct tape – faster and more precisely than scissors.
3. Tent pegs
If you're working outdoors, don't risk a toppled wall—even a light wind can cause a surprise. Pegs work well with walls with a wooden base—simply secure them with string or a tie to the eyelets.
Alternative: If you cannot drive the stakes into the ground, bring sandbags or paving stones as weights.
4. Modeling balloons
They are useful for stabilizing larger garlands, creating transitions, tying elements together, or… providing a quick rescue for popped balloons.
They have many "emergency" uses – it's worth having at least a dozen pieces in neutral colors.
5. Double-sided tape – quick installation without nails
Perfect for attaching small decorations to smooth surfaces (e.g., cardboard signs, light flowers, fabrics). Good tape holds but doesn't leave any residue – don't risk the cheapest options.
Note: Not every surface accepts tape – test on a small piece before final application.
6. Electric balloon pump – saving time and energy
If you're working with balloons, an electric balloon pump is a must-have. It will help you make a garland in 15 minutes instead of an hour.
Choose a model with a double nozzle and an automatic shut-off function, as this increases work comfort.
Tip: Always have a classic hand pump handy in case of a power outage.
